Pinewood has 4 fantastic authentic native American Indian Tipis, 8 large canvas 'modern' Tipi tents and 2 cowboy tents, 4 Cowboy Camping Shacks, and new for 2011: 2 Western Wagons.
A fun, unique and environmentally friendly way to spend time away from the hustle and bustle and stresses of every day life. Wake up to the birds singing, drift off to the sound of the owls, and just simply enjoy the mixture of old fashioned camping in a truly beautiful place, while being at home with nature. You'll go home feeling re-charged and re-freshed.
Our modern tipis sleep up to 6 people - 2 adults and 4 children (our price & furnishings are based on a family of 4), and are a lovely cosy place to spend time as a couple or a family. Young and old (and all those in between!), will have an extraordinary experience.
This photo above, taken in 2009, is of one of our furnished authentic Indian Tipis.
All of our tipis are on wooden decks, and have electric heaters and most are furnished with futons and are surprisingly spacious. As they are raised off the ground, they are very clean and homely. All you really need to bring are your sleeping bags and pillows, a towel/toiletries, a torch, and any food and drinks you would like, and your sense of adventure! You'll have a real fun time!
Tipis are perfect for so many people; families, couples wanting a romantic break, walkers, bird spotters, surfers;.... the list goes on. Why not surprise a loved one as a birthday or anniversary treat.
You can hire a gas stove from us (please book this when booking your holiday) if you wish to travel extra light, although you are more than welcome to bring your own, as well as any home comforts that you desire; i.e. BBQ, portable DVD player, radio etc. It makes a welcome change to get away from it all, but there are some things we just can't seem to live without in this modern era (we keep trying to tell our own kids that we managed perfectly well without mobile phones when we were kids - but they just don't seem to listen!).
Each Tipi has it's own picnic bench. You can sit outside and watch the sun set - it's beautiful to watch and very memorable.
LARGE AUTHENTIC TRADITIONAL INDIAN TIPI TENTS (as above but now on a large wooden decking area)
Our authentic traditional native American Indian Tipis are quite spectacular. They have been built in the same traditional way in which native Indians built them hundreds of years ago. They have 15 wooden poles, and are covered in a thick traditional canvas. We now have them erected on a large wooden decked platform; each with it's own outdoor space. they each have a picnic bench, and enough room for you to enjoy an outdoor meal together or a BBQ. They also have a full size faux brown leather futon, and 2 single cube chair/beds, a small table, an electric heater and an electric socket (metered). Great for up to a family of 4.
This photo above shows an open cowboy tent, then behind is a closed cowboy tent, with a modern Tipi in the background and an authentic Tipi to the left. Taken in 2009, we have now moved the cowboy tent nearer to the Cowboy Shacks.
LARGE MODERN TIPIS (as pictured below)
We also have 8 large modern Tipi tents. These are very stylish, traditional and made from 100%cotton, which is a natural and replenishable material. They are very sturdy, and instead of the authentic wooden poles, they have just 1 central pole, and guy ropes connected around the top of the walls are tensioned to keep the elegant shape. They are very spacious and sleep 6 comfortably (max 2 adults & our prices are based on 4 & they are furnished for 4 - if additonal guests staying; extra air beds or travel cots can be brought, but we do not have spare beds on site). The tipi tents are based on a traditional design, but have been improved for modern day use. They keep the inside cool on hot days, and the electric heater keeps them warm and cosy on cooler nights. These TIpis also have an electric socket (metered) for your convenience. The tipi tents are placed on a wooden deck, have coir matting, a double faux brown leather futon, and 2 faux brown leather cube chair/beds and a small table. They are all ready for you to just to bring your sleeping bags, a pillow, torch, towel, toiletries and food and drink. Of course, as you have the convenience of metered electric, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to, you are very welcome to bring a kettle or toaster for an easy breakfast, or anything else electrical.
This photo above, of a modern Tipi, was taken in 2009. We have now replaced these with brand new ones for 2011, and while they are still sited on these wooden decks, the new ones have an electric fire instead of a wood burning stove.
COWBOY TENTS
Our Cowboy Tents are 90% similar to our modern Tipis - still made from canvas - slightly smaller in size, but slightly different shape. They are now sited on a large deck with carpets, a double futon and 1 single cube beds and a small table. They also have a picnic bench outside. These are very similar to the modern Tipis - the only main difference is the shape, but these are also slightly smaller and would suit a couple or a family of 3.
COWBOY CAMPING SHACKS *NEW*
New in 2010 are our Cowboy Camping Shacks. These basic cabins are ideal for all year round camping. They have the same basic furnishings as our Tipis - a double and 2 single cube chair beds, a small barrel table, a small storage box and an electric heater, a table lamp and socket (metered). They are double glazed and insulated and are very cosy. They also have a large covered veranda, with a rocking chair and table and stools; which is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sun set. These camping shacks are an ideal addition to our Cowboy and Indian themed area. A family of up to 2 adults and 4 children can fit ion these, although beds are provided for 4 guests, and prices are based on a family of 4. There is room to bring air beds and travel cots. Families with younger children benefit from lockable doors and a slighlty quieter position on site.
NEW FOR 2011: WOODY'S WESTERN WAGONS (pictured below)
These brand new wagons are the first of their kind in the UK. They fit in perfectly with the Wild West theme and are great fun and unique. They have been hand crafted especially for Pinewood, and are a fully enclosed wooden structure, with a canvas cover over the roof to resemble an old Wild West 'chuck wagon'. They are fully insulated so are perfect for all year round use. While they do have the old Wild West Wagon look; they come complete with some modern day comforts like 2 single beds, 1 double bed, lights, a mini fridge and microwave and kettle and a toaster, as well as a picnic bench outside and a small covered porch area. Woody's Western Wagons also have metered electric like all the other accommodation. sorry; but dogs are not allowed in the Wagons.
May Half Term - Friday 1st June - 3 nights, Mon 4th - 3 nights, Thurs 7th - 3 nights
Main School Holidays - from Friday 20th July - Sunday 4th September - any Friday for 3 or 7 nights, any Monday for 4 or 7 nights.
ELECTRIC TO THE TIPIS, SHACKS & WAGONS
We have introduced electric to most of Tipis (20 in total) because many guests have said, while they enjoy getting away from 'it all', they would also like to have a couple of home comforts; like a lamp or a potable DVD player to quieten the kids down after a hectic day. All electric on our site, whether staying in a carvan, tent or Tipi is metered, and you just pay for what you use. Of course, you do not have to use the electric if you are wanting a 'techno free' holiday.
Above: cowboy tent. Below: modern Tipi (photo taken in 2009, but now all modern Tipis have electric imitation 'wood burners' not real wood burning stoves).
Please be aware that the interiors of your Tipi may differ from what we have described above, as we are constantly improving and altering our site. If you would like to know exactly what is in your Tipi, please ask when making your booking.
This is us, with our 2 sons, Jordan & Brad, enjoying some quality family time, and testing out the Tipis for the first time. Until then, we hadn't even been camping before!!
This photo was taken in 2008; when Tipis were brand new to Pinewood. We have now improved them in many ways; including decking, carpets and proper furniture. We have actually replaced our original Tipis from then, as they were sub-standard, and they did let in the rain. Our new Tipis are a 1000% improvement on our first ones.
Jordan was in charge of keeping the fire going!!

If you are searching for the ultimate wedding reception with a difference - then look no further! We have a number of weddings already booked in this year - for couples wanting an alternative or 'eco' wedding - or maybe just somewhere unusual or more memorable.
Your wedding would be a DIY wedding - with you taking control on how you wanted your day to be. You would have access to the whole site; tenting field, caravanning area, and all the Tipis, aswell as an additional field which could be used in a number of ways; car parking, play field for the children (young & old!!), maybe to put up a bouncy castle or a marquee - the choice would be yours.
As far as food and entertainment - again it is up to you; your own band or disco, a BBQ, roasting marshmallows around a camp fire, a hog roast or outside caterers.
Our first ever wedding reception was held in April 2009. Karen and Guy hired the whole campsite for a weekend in April. Click on the picture above to see our rather shaky video!
While we want you to organise your wedding of your choice; obviously we are here to help and we are happy to assist you.
Other events at Pinewood are also proving very popular - family reunions, special Birthday weekends, charity events, staff weekends away and team building events.
Please see the price list for details on hiring the whole site and please do not hesitate to contact us if there is any other information which you require.
